Heading for the lovely harbour of Brest for a breath of art: Le Comœdia

A rebirth! The people of Brest knew it as a theatre, then as an art-house cinema, before it was closed and left to decay, to everyone’s dismay. Since last year, the Comœdia has been home to a superb gallery for exhibiting and selling contemporary art. The venue alone is worth the trip: bas-reliefs by the sculptor Jean-René Debarre, a white-and-gold Art Deco-style hall, a small rotunda… The large 1940s auditorium displays tremendous elegance with its circular balcony and its ceiling adorned with a Neptune… You could almost forget the works on show – but that would be a mistake. With three to four exhibitions a year, the gallery shows contemporary artists from Brittany and beyond across 400 m², with a particular fondness for sculpture. From 6 February to 2 May, the spotlight is on the pioneers of street art and the emerging local and national scene: Miss Tic, Lord Anthony Cahn, Le Cyklop, Levalet… will be joined by the sculptor Richard Di Rosa.
Open Thursday to Saturday from 2 pm to 6 pm, free admission.
