The walls
Driven by the desire to make the urban landscape his own, Lord Anthony Cahn has developed a study of walls. Since 2008, he has materialized walls through reconstructions, placing them in another dimension. Whether they are miniature or monumental, indoors or outdoors, the artist recreates the places, atmospheres, and lyricism of certain streets, neighborhoods, and cities that inspire him.
These sculptures depict worn, weathered façades covered with posters, graffiti, and collages. In harmony with time and space, they question and highlight paradoxes and ambiguities.
A guarantee of privacy or a means of exposure: their functions intertwine. Drawn, painted, tagged, and built in the image of an era, these works are the fruit of an exploration of memory and emotions.
The horizon of walls as memory: walls are part of a shared heritage, universal records of time. They reassure, protect, and bring people together. As if fallen from the sky, the artist’s contemporary remains capture a moment and an energy.
Lord Anthony Cahn thus seeks to pay tribute to his surroundings in a poetic and unusual language. He enjoys playing with dimensions and formats, and it is this obsession with volume and depth that drives his artistic approach. The monumental works impose themselves and elude us, while the miniatures slip in and invite themselves.
